Benefits of Green Tea?

OK, I drink green tea, as well as black tea, and even coffee. When I can afford my true addiction to caffeine, I'll drink 2-litter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew(can't handle the sugar in regular Mountain Dew). But I wonder, what are the benefits of green tea?

I've done some searching, and asking others about the beneficial effects of green tea, verses coffee and other beverages.

Some positive effects of green tea I have found commonly known:

  1. Green Tea has less caffeine than regular coffee.
  2. Green tea has flavonoids, that prevent, or fight cancer.
  3. Green tea is milder on the digestive track.

Further green tea effects not fully understood yet
I am still researching other health benefits of green tea, any side-effects, and differences between different varieties. Example: What is the difference between Chinese Green Tea, Green Herbal Tea, and Organic Green Tea? From their names: Chinese Green Tea, Green Herbal Tea, and Organic Green Tea; one can figure there are differences, and it might all be just in a name.

One benefit I find told by many is green tea helps with weight loss, but when I look at how, it appears that green tea weight loss is from the dieter substituting snacking with cups of green tea. If anyone eliminates snacking, I'm sure there would be some form of weight loss, but the small amounts of caffeine offsets the low-energy levels a dieter has when reducing caloric intake. But this can be duplicated with regular coffee or even some diet sodas.

Or how is green tea in different 'unorthodox' uses beneficial?

  1. Green tea capsules, green tea supplements, and green tea pills? Is potency sacrificed with Green tea capsules, green tea supplements, and green tea pills, for the benefit of convenience?
  2. Green tea patch? Is this for people trying to give up green tea?
  3. Green tea shampoo? How does this effect you hair?
  4. Green tea powder? Is green tea powder just instant green tea?
  5. Green tea gum, green tea soap, green tea perfume, etc, etc, etc.

I plan on continuing my drinking of green tea, just that when I look into how green tea is good for you, I try to substitute more green tea in my diet verses coffee and Diet Mountain Dew. Plus it is cheaper this way.
